Requirements to Participate in the Expedited Building Permit Process

While all permitted structures destroyed by the Thomas Fire will be expedited through the Building Permit process, certain standards will be waived only if the structure is rebuilt at the same size and function. Please see documents below.

The Board of Supervisors approved fee waivers in January 2018 for certain Planning, Building and Safety, Environmental Health, and Fire Protection District fees related to rebuilding structures damaged in the Thomas Fire. In December 2020, the Board approved to extend the fee waivers for victims of the Thomas Fire and included fee waivers for victims of the Woolsey and Hill fires until December 31, 2022. Recently, as part of the Board’s actions on January 24, 2023, the Board approved to extend the fee waivers until December 31, 2024. It’s important to note that the fee waivers only provide financial relief to those property owners who experienced the loss and would not apply to those who subsequently purchased a vacant lot to rebuild.
