VENTURA, Calif. – As the recovery and rebuilding process continues following the Mountain Fire, the Environmental Health Division and Incident Management Team are pleased to announce that Phase 2 of debris removal is now underway. Site assessments and asbestos assessments are in progress, and debris removal operations are set to begin as early as this week.
Residents can expect to see multiple crews and trucks in affected neighborhoods, working to remove structural fire debris and clean up properties. Debris removal crews will be in place to start operations at 7:00 am and will end operations by 4:30 pm. To minimize dust and ash pollution, all debris will be misted continuously and securely wrapped in trucks during removal. Air quality will be monitored throughout the process, and operations will be paused if weather conditions are deemed to result in safety issues.
In collaboration with the City of Camarillo, efforts have been made to alleviate traffic congestion in the affected areas. These include implementing temporary traffic patterns, designated routes for debris removal trucks, and coordination around school pick-up and drop-off times. Traffic message boards will be placed along Las Posas Road to notify residents about debris removal activities in the area.
Phase 2 of debris removal includes several important steps to ensure a thorough and safe cleanup of affected properties. These steps include site and asbestos assessments, debris and ash removal, soil testing, and erosion control, all to ensure the site is ready for rebuilding. The time required to complete debris removal on individual properties is subject to site-specific conditions and will vary.
Residents who have already enrolled in the County-Led Debris Removal Program are encouraged to visit the Debris Removal Operations Center (DROC). County contractors and Environmental Health staff will be available at the DROC to answer questions, provide updates on the debris removal process, and offer guidance on the next steps. The DROC is located at 165 Durley Ave., Camarillo, CA 93010, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Residents can also contact the DROC at (805) 320-8378.
The County of Ventura and the City of Camarillo are committed to supporting residents throughout the recovery process and assisting homeowners as they move forward with rebuilding their homes and communities.
