The County of Ventura, in coordination with the local nonprofit House Farm Workers!, began a Countywide Farmworker Housing Study and Action Plan in Fall 2021 to identify housing needs of farmworkers in the County and consider alternate solutions to improve and develop much-needed farmworker housing throughout the County. The Study and Action Plan will be utilized by the incorporated cities and the county to develop targeted programs and strategies to address the identified housing needs of farmworkers and to support agricultural businesses with a stable and healthy workforce.
This project is coordinated and funded by the County of Ventura, all ten cities within the county, and the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC), and is being completed in partnership with the nonprofit House Farm Workers!
The multi-year project includes the following five phases. Details and status of each phase can be found on the Project Phases, Timeline, Funding page:
- Phase 1: Advisory Council Formation
- Phase 2: Survey Methodology and Design
- Phase 3: Survey Implementation
- Phase 4: Farmworker Housing Study and Action Plan
- Phase 5: Community engagement in implementing the Action Plan
A Project Coordination Committee consisting of representatives from the County’s Planning Division and House Farm Workers! is steering the project through its various phases since its inception in Fall 2021 under the guidance of an Advisory Council formed as part of Phase 1.
